Where it stands
Parked at the observation
Halting hunt H-1 (exact model) ended without a halt. Exact accelerated phase map (347's validated fast map, plus bijective-base-3 batching of the pre-alignment Incs; C port, about 45 us per phase) ran from phase 15,304 to phase 127,822,269 (M = 2,055,209,149, about 3.5e26 steps): no halt and no margin break.

New near-miss: k_align/(M-1) = 0.9893 at phase 43,355,647 (M = 662,347,287); the earlier record was 0.9755 at phase 1572. Model checked against: the old map, 15,000/15,000 phases; 347's own orbit, 10,476/10,476; continuous direct simulation of 686 itself, phases 304..1604 (1,300/1,300, 1.84e11 steps, covering the 0.9755 phase); one direct whole phase at 31,857 (2.19e11 steps); and direct full-bell component checks on 686 at 13 phases up to M = 1.19e9, including the 0.9893 phase (286/286). Forced breaks show a halt needs a break of depth about 1.5 (0 of 9,507 runs at k/M <= 1.43 halt; 3-30% at 1.54 or more). A forced halt at M ~ 2e7 is reproduced on 686 itself. Not cryptid. Non-halting would need a margin lemma; the lead is k_align < 2*3^floor(log3 M) with a chain-depth/M coupling.

About this picture
The standard picture (bbchallenge.org's Default view): each row is the whole tape at one step, time runs downward, and the head's path draws the pattern.
