About this picture

The standard picture (bbchallenge.org's Default view): each row is the whole tape at one step, time runs downward, and the head's path draws the pattern.

Med confidence: spend a proof-prep stage deriving the size invariant (pending-t height < log2 N - 2) natively, or park R2 until #29's eat work gives a shared counter/shift lemma?
parked
Waiting (auto-applied wait_shared, 2026-10-10): R2 parks until the joint R3/R2 crossing-lemma stage and #29 report on the same size lemma.

Spend a deepen stage on the left-word language and the eat size e', starting with an early cryptid test, or park R2 behind its sibling #29? (Dennis: go with all recommendations (2026-10-10))
2026-10-10 · size_invariant
Spend one stage proving R2's size invariant (every pending t clears before the next eat) and then write proof.md, or park R2 until #29's eat work gives a shared lemma? (auto-applied: Claude's recommendation, under Dennis's standing instruction 'do your recommendations and continuously orchestrate' (2026-10-10, while he was at lunch). Override any time.)

R2's size invariant is reduced to one inequality that needs a crossing lemma near powers of two: park R2 until #29/R3's size-invariant stages report, fund an R2 crossing-lemma stage now, or park it for good? Decisions →

Mechanism

How it works: 3 notes
  • Tape = L | bell 1 (110)^e (010)^f 1 0^inf, e+f = N per epoch; each round e+1, f-1 and L (binary counter, 3-cell digits) gains 1/2.
  • At f = 0 the bell eats the low 3e'-2 cells of L: f' = N, e' = 1 (odd last round) or 2..47 (even); L then mixes digit kinds.
  • Exact so far: sweeps R1-R4 and INC2 on pure counters; open: carry/eat on mixed words. tm108 cert: 9/12 hold (HL2, HR2, HE2 fail).

note
scripts/template_check.py runs tm108's 12 cert hypotheses on both machines: tm108 12/12 (sanity), ours 9/12 (25/25 each). Fail 0/25: HL2 (binary carry 1 <E -> <E 1, needs E1=1LE), HR2 (00 marker step, uses F0) and HE2 (marker birth). So the sweeps and the eat pieces HE0/HE1/HE3 carry over; the counter (3-cell digits), the marker (a 110|010 border, not 00) and the eat size (3e'-2 cells, e' = 1..47, not a = 1) do not.
Proof strategy & riskshow the formal proof will go · 3 risks to watch

Deepen before any proof: (1) derive the carry automaton on mixed digit words and the eat automaton (predict e' from L); (2) find a language for L closed under INC2/ROUND and RESET, with a size bound N >= c|L|, and closure-fuzz it; (3) then a BECv1-style file with an Inductive digit list, or a CTL/RWL certificate if the language is regular.

  • ▲The eat size e' depends on the counter's digits at the reset (arithmetic feedback); if the reachable L words are not regular, a hand proof is hard.
  • ▲Real left words with a too-small bell (N < |L|) do halt (2/300 replay starts), so the invariant needs a quantitative N vs |L| bound.
  • ▲Sibling #29 (F0 = 0LB) looks similar but its trajectory differs (1e8: span -1917..265 vs ours -1929..263); a shared proof is not guaranteed.

Waiting (auto-applied wait_shared, 2026-10-10): R2 parks until the joint R3/R2 crossing-lemma stage and #29 report on the same size lemma. Funded size_invariant stage (2026-10-10) ended STUCK; confidence stays med. No inductive size invariant was found. The reduction is now sharp: ball gaps never grow (20,596,783 trajectory ball-eats to N = 1e7 and 743,436 random, 0 violations), so safety reduces to each ball's first t-epoch. Every birth outside one special case has 2^h1 <= V*/2 (by hand; 7,454,109 trajectory and 188,785 random births). So non-halting follows from one inequality, R1: T_k + 1 <= I_k (total value at epoch start below the epoch's INC count), plus Delta+1 < 2^m in the special case V* = 2^m with two odd eats. R1 holds at all 808,539 epochs to N = 1e7, with T/I <= 0.28 for N >= 2^13 and <= 0.13 for N >= 2^14 to 1e7. It is not provable from size summaries: near-power-of-two random states break the candidates (Ja 44, Jb 601, Jc 668 of 2000), because during a crossing V* = 2^m + delta the whole ball potential moves into T. Needed: a crossing lemma bounding sum over balls of 2^(Z_gap(2^m + delta_k)) along a passage of V* through 2^m. (status.json, 2026-10-10)
observer's note
Low confidence. ROUND/RESET structure holds on every round from blank to 100,000,000,000 steps (0 exceptions) and INC2 is exact on pure counters, but the left-word language and the eat size are not derived. Not a cryptid candidate yet: no halt depends on the eat sizes in the tests.

"reason": "Waiting (auto-applied wait_shared, 2026-10-10): R2 parks until the joint R3/R2 crossing-lemma stage and #29 report on the same size lemma. Needed: a crossing lemma bounding sum over balls of 2^(Z_gap(2^m + delta_k)) along a passage of V* through 2^m.",
