G16 P(a,b,c) r → P(a+8,b+2,c+2) r′ over 16 wall bounces — 32/32

P(a,b,c) := 0^inf <D 11 01^14 10^a 1^4 01^3 1^2 10^8 01^b 10^12 1 10^c 1^3 10^6 01^18 0 01^2 (wall..G3; r = rest of tape). G16 holds for a odd ≥ 1, b even ≥ 4 and c even ≥ 2, with a, b, c independent and r any of 4 real right parts. The other parity classes fail (0/12), so the rule really depends on parity.

Template check (BLv3.v TM1): 8 of 11 transitions differ, so the answer is partly. The method carries over: columns (01)^n+defect, signal streams, a per-column transducer, quadRect closure. The lemmas do not: we have an extra 1111 column type and a growing edge. BLv3's own cut tape (0^inf <C + C0 16 ++ bl5_suffix_word ++ E 3) run on this machine halts at sim step 20,175.

Outcome

Card data pass (2026-10-10)

Deepen pass (overnight 2026-10-10)

Scripts: scripts/deepen_* (C sources compile with gcc -O2; Python with python3 -B). Token notation g:X = defect run X (11, 00, 1111, ...) after g clean alternating cells (scripts/deepen_tok.py).

1. Blank tape → G16 lock (regime transition closed). The left block first matches P(a,b,c) at wall visit 125 (step 190,860; n = 7, a = 117, b = 14, c = 12). It matches again at every 16th visit after that: 193/193 visits checked (125..3197, all ≡ 13 mod 16, a = 8n+61, b = 2n, c = 2n−2, L = 32n+26). Before step 190,860 a proof only needs finite simulation.

2. Head/defect interaction table (exact, local). In a clean run, a right-moving head cycles (E,0)→(F,1)→(D,0)→(E,1). E-phase means it reaches a defect's first cell in E. x-phase means it arrives in F (on a 1) or D (on a 0). A left-moving head has no phase: it is C on a 0 and D on a 1. Validated with 1440/1440 random instances: run lengths 3..80 on both sides, 60 per cell, and each cell gave exactly one outcome (deepen_table_validate.py).

defect from left, E-phase from left, x-phase from right (C/D)
11 pass → 00 (same cells) reflect → 00, shift +1 pass → 11, shift −1
00 reflect → 1111, shift −1 pass → 11 reflect → 11, shift −1
1111 pass → 0000 reflect → 11, shift +2 pass → 1111, shift −1
111 pass → 000 reflect → vanishes pass, shift −1
11111 pass → 00000 reflect → 111, shift +2 pass, shift −1
0000 reflect → 1^6 HALT reflect → 00
000 HALT reflect → 1^5 reflect → vanishes
00000 reflect → 1111011 reflect → 1^7 reflect → 000

From the right, 1-runs always pass and 0-runs always reflect and shrink by 2. So a 0^k (k ≥ 3) that one pass leaves behind the head shrinks before any head can reach it from the left. That holds as long as defects stay isolated.

3. Halting reduction. This is a cell-level argument, not simulation. (a) A left-moving head cannot cross 00: C on 0 becomes D, and D on 0 turns right. (b) Halting needs E> 0001: E, F and A each read a 0, then B reads a 1. (c) Frozen region. A cell to the right of the head was last written by the step that moved the head left off it. Left-moving C always writes 1. A left-moving D writes 0 only when it reads a 1, and it was entered from C on the cell to its right, which C had just set to 1. So such a 0 always has a 1 on its right. The only other leftward 0-write is the turn of a right-moving D on a 1: F> 1 1 → <C 0 0. That turn leaves the next cell as it was. (d) So the first 0 of any 0001 ahead of the head is a turn zero, and the step that wrote it saw F> 1 1 0 0 1. The machine halts only if an x-phase head at some time reaches an 11 defect immediately followed by a 00 defect (cells 1100). (e) I searched clusters exhaustively (deepen_clusters.py): types {11, 00, 1111, 111, 11111}, 2 defects with gaps 0..9 and 3 defects with gaps 0..4, both phases. The only cluster that one pass from the left leaves with a 000 ahead of the head, or halts on, contains an adjacent 1100 met in x-phase (1 two-defect cluster and 16 three-defect clusters, all of them containing 1100). This agrees with (d).

4. Census on the real orbit (deepen_frozen_census.c, deepen_nearmiss_clusters.c): - A right-moving head never has a 0001 ahead of it: badR = 0 up to 1e10 steps. A 1e11 run was stopped at about 1.3e10 when the stage budget ran out. - An x-phase head met the first 1 of an 11 603,714 times by 1e10. It was followed by 1 (a 1111) 86,173 times, by 01 517,541 times and by 00 0 times. - Near misses (deepen_nearmiss_clusters.c, to 1e10). I counted arrivals at the first cell of a 1-run whose original left neighbour was 0. 1111·00 (cells 111100) was hit 3 times: E-phase at step 10,980,420; x-phase at step 12,975,111; E-phase at step 162,046,035. The x-phase hit made a bare 1100 with the head on its left, which is one step of the halting chain. The next arrival, 50 steps later (step 12,975,161), was E-phase, so it passed safely. No x-phase arrival at a bare 1100 ever happened. Nothing happened between steps 1.6e8 and 1e10. All 4 events were in the edge zone, 367–948 cells left of hi. (An earlier detector keyed on the written left cell was wrong and has been removed.)

5. The phase is not local. I checked the arrival phase at an 11 against the untouched tape ahead (R = 5..20 cells): 7 of 9 up to 104 of 199 contexts see both phases (deepen_phase_context.c). So "a 1100 is never met in x-phase" is not a local invariant. A proof has to carry the phase as non-local information (BLv3-style signal streams), or show that 1100 only forms where the next arrival must be E-phase.

6. Hierarchy beyond G3 (exact, period doubling). For each period P, I counted how many leading tokens repeat exactly (same types, constant gap growth over 2 periods) at visit 9005, where there are 122 tokens: P = 16 → 10, 32 → 13, 64 → 16, 128 → 17, 256 → 18, 512 → 19, 1024 → 20, 2048 → 25 (deepen_period_depth.py). Each doubling of the period locks about one more defect. This is a period-doubling counter, not pseudo-random arithmetic. Trip depth in tokens follows the fixed 16-pattern 3 9 6 * 3 9 8 9 3 5 6 * 3 5 * 5; the 3 starred trips go deeper. P(depth > k) falls slowly: 0.19 for k = 12, 0.09 for 20, 0.04 for 38. Deep trips are common.

7. Edge zone (open). The right end only ever grows in steps of 11 cells (151 extensions by 1e9). The tail alternates between two forms: - X = …(12:1111 8:1111)^m 12:1111 8:11 (12:11 13:00 9:11)^2 12:11 13:$ - Y = …(8:1111 12:1111)^m … (11:00 11:11 10:1111)^2 11:00 11:11 13:$

Each +11 step toggles X ↔ Y. Behind the tail sit about 40–100 young tokens with mixed gaps (2..37). All the small gaps, the odd defects (111, 11111) and all 4 near misses (1111·00 / 1100) live there. The zone only changes on trips that reach it. Its rules are not decoded.

Verdict. Confidence stays med. The mechanism is much sharper now: - Every halt needs one collision type: 1100 met in x-phase. - To 1e10 it never happens. - What prevents it is a non-local phase inside an edge zone that is not decoded yet.

I see no pseudo-random arithmetic, so this is not a cryptid flag. Still, the near miss at step 12,975,111 was decided by the phase alone, which is a warning sign. Next: 1. Log every 1100 and 1111·00 collision with the phase history of the arriving signal. 2. Build the per-defect signal transducer: right-crossings carry 1 phase bit, left-crossings carry none. Test whether the stream that reaches the edge zone is regular, which is the BLv3 good approach.

Deepen pass 2

Scripts: scripts/deepen2_* (C: gcc -O2, run under ulimit -v 6000000; Python: python3 -B). Phase notation as in pass 1: E-phase = right-moving head reaches the defect's first cell in E; x-phase = in F (on a 1) or D (on a 0).

1. The near miss is one stage of a recurring halting chain (validated). A seed is an x-phase head hitting the cluster 11·01·00 (cells 110100). The cluster then reacts to the next arrivals from the left like this:

stage arrival effect
1 (seed) x at the 11 11 → 00 (+1): cells 100100
2 E at the new 00 reflect → 1111 (−1): 1111·00
3 x at the 1111 reflect → 11 (+2): bare 1100
4 x at the 11 reflect → 000
5 E at the 000 HALT

deepen2_chainval.py checks this on the isolated cluster with random run lengths 8..60 on both sides. x,E,x,x,E halts 60/60, while x,E,x,x,x ends in a safe 1^5 60/60. It also tried all 30 phase sequences of length 1..4, 40 random instances each, and each gave one outcome. Every prefix other than x,E,x,x sends the head through to the right and dissolves the cluster. Correction to pass 1, §3(d): an x-phase hit on a bare 1100 is necessary for halting but not enough, because it only writes 000. One more E-phase arrival is needed.

Stages 2-5 never read the cells to the right of the cluster. The 00 E-reflect reads one cell past the 00, which is the 1 between the two 00s; the 1111 and 11 x-reflects read only their own cells. So stages 2-5 are decided by the left context alone.

2. Seeds recur and their stage phases look like coin flips. deepen2_chain.c was run to about 4e10 steps; it was stopped at the stage budget, and its log is scripts/deepen2_chain_seeds_4e10.txt.

seed step stage 2 stage 3 stage 4
#0 1,933,834 x
#1 5,464,507 x
#2 10,830,442 E E
#3 12,974,901 E x E (the step-12,975,111 near miss)
#4 160,012,399 E E
#5 734,602,944 x
#6 898,781,960 x
#7 12,358,956,241 E E
#8 16,912,639,982 x
#9 18,868,953,305 x
#10 24,518,883,204 (no return yet)

That is about 0.7 seeds per doubling of the step count, with no sign of slowing down. Seed positions are q = 254..1915, while hi grows from 992 to 8043. Generic rates for the same reflections anywhere on the tape (deepen2_reflnext.c to 3e8, deepen2_chain3.c to 1e9): - after an 11 x-reflect, the next arrival at the 00 is E 49.7%; - after a 00 E-reflect, the next arrival at the 1111 is x 34.7%; - after that 1111 x-reflects, the next arrival at the 11 is x 12.7%.

The seeds match these rates: 4/10, 1/4, 0/1. The 70 cells left of each seed differ in all 7 seeds to 2e9, so seeds do not come from one local template that could force later phases. If the phases are independent coins, each seed halts with probability about 0.5 · 0.35 · 0.13 · 0.5 ≈ 1%. At about 0.7 seeds per doubling, that predicts a halt eventually, but only around 2^100 steps or later.

3. Negative results (invariant candidates ruled out). - Global phase gauge. θ = (κ − pos) mod 4 over right-moving clean steps, with κ: E0=0, F1=1, D0=2, E1=3. It takes all 4 values in 5,175 of 5,180 wall cycles to 1e8 (deepen2_gauge.c). Phase is not a function of position and time parity. - Gap mod 4. deepen2_gapcensus.c measured the gap k from a 1-run to the next 00, to 2e9. For x-phase 11s, k ≡ 0 mod 4 occurs 10,472 times and k ≡ 2 mod 4 occurs 76 times. The seeds are k = 2 exceptions, so no gap-mod-4 invariant excludes them. - Other routes to adjacency. The 1-run/00 adjacencies seen (k = 0) were 4 events to 2e9, all inside seed chains #2-#4. No other route to 11·00 or 1111·00 was seen to about 4e10.

4. Global layout (deepen2_wvsel.c + deepen2_tokpos.py, wall visits 1000..16000): - Left: the exact period-doubling counter. - Middle: the mixed zone. It holds about 70-100 tokens at a roughly fixed absolute position (about 250..2200), with gaps 1..100 and all defect types. Every seed and every near miss is here. - Right: a regular tail of repeated blocks A = (12:11 10:11)^a, B = (12:1111 8:1111)^b and C = (11:00 11:11 10:1111)^c, with fixed separators such as 13:00 9:11 12:11. It grows by +11 cells per extension. These block rules are observed only, not validated.

Verdict: cryptid-like, flagged. Mechanism confidence stays med. Halting reduces exactly to the validated 5-stage chain above, and seeds keep forming. The chain's stages are decided by mod-4 phases coming from an undecoded, disordered mixed zone. They match generic coin rates, and nothing visible forces them. This is not Collatz-style arithmetic, but it has the same consequence: a non-halting proof would need hidden structure in the mixed zone that the data do not show, and the coin heuristic says the machine probably halts eventually, far beyond simulation. Status → CRYPTID_CANDIDATE for Dennis's priority call (stop, or continue by decoding the mixed zone). What would refute the flag: an exact rule for how the counter's signal stream drives the mixed zone that forces stage 2 = x or stage 3/4 = E at every seed.

Decision (2026-10-10)

Question: Stop work on #6 and its twin #27: keep #6 flagged CRYPTID_CANDIDATE and park proof work, rather than spend a stage decoding the mixed zone? Answer: stop (Stop: keep CRYPTID_CANDIDATE and park). Dennis: go with all recommendations (2026-10-10). Stopped by Dennis 2026-10-10: stays cryptid candidate, proof work parked with twin #27 (1RB0RA_1RC0RF_1RD1LE_1RE---_1LF1LE_1RA0LE).
