"recommend": "park #37: the real orbit is in sync to phase 1,857 and the next excursion (phase 3,321) is predicted benign, but a proof needs a wave grammar on run words with no template; optional cheap step: confirm phase 3,321 on the real orbit (~1 h, one light C process)",
"mechanism": "Bit 0 of the counter is the parity of the block: the block's left end oscillates between two fixed cells for a whole phase and only its right end erodes. The counter word L lives in K = words whose 1-runs all have length >= 2; K is closed under the visit, nothing in it halts inside a phase, and the block change is exact (d = -1 / -3 by block parity, d = r-1 when the final gap is 1 and the bottom run r merges). So m mod 4 in {1,2} (the sync) can only break at a merge. If the final gap z is >= 3 at an even visit, z alternates exactly '=3' / '>=4' for the rest of the phase and no merge happens. The reset maps z to z-1 and n' = 4 visits + 2. In the steady class (n = 6 mod 8, z = 3 at start, long bottom run) this closes: visits = 3 mod 4, z_reset = 4, z' = 3, n' = 6 mod 8. The real run is in that class from phase 11 on. Deepen2: inside a phase the counter is a binary counter on fixed cells (bit 1 = right end of the bottom run, bit 2 = its left end). From phase 15 the bottom run loses exactly 1 cell per phase; it becomes an 11 digit at phases 91 and 119, and both times a 3-phase excursion (z_reset 8, then z 7 > 3, then z 2 with one merge, d = +1) restores the steady class. Excursions are safe when the run that becomes the bottom is long; runs of 3-4 arriving during an excursion go off-sync (random tests 9/40). Follow stage: a C port of the jump simulator followed the real orbit to phase 1,857 (n ~ 2^1860) with no off-sync; excursions at phases 91, 119, 215, 487 were all benign, and after each one a merge wave climbs from the bottom (about 0.5 runs per phase), absorbing short runs (the 3-run from phase 171 was absorbed at phase 231-233) and leaving a frozen, ever coarser low region. A fast-forward check (exact on the past excursion) predicts the next excursion at phase 3,321 as benign.",
